Rendering

Key Reasons to address blown render:

Blown render occurs when the exterior coating of a building separates or detaches from the underlying wall substrate. This creates a gap between the render and the masonry, compromising the building's protective "shield", presenting the below issues.

Falling Debris: Blown render will eventually crack and fall off in chunks, posing a physical safety hazard to anyone below.

Severe Water Ingress & Damp Penetrating Damp: The gap between the render and the wall acts as a trap for moisture. This water can seep directly into the masonry, leading to penetrating damp on internal walls, which causes peeling wallpaper, musty smells, and mould growth. Worsening Cycles: Trapped water expands when it freezes (the freeze-thaw cycle), pushing the render further away from the wall and widening existing cracks.

Structural Risks Masonry Erosion: When render is blown, the underlying brick or stone loses its "protective skin". Exposure to constant moisture can cause the face of the bricks to crumble (spalling) or erode mortar joints.
